Forsyth park was created around 1842 and originally was twenty acres in size. It was later increased to thirty acres. It was named to honor Georgia
Governor John Forsyth. Forsyth Park has several monuments adorning its grounds. The Confederate monument,
which faces North, is one of the largest monuments in Savannah and is in the center of the park. Placed here in 1874 to honor those who were living at that time and those who lost their lives during the Civil War.
The Forsyth Park fountain is toward the northern end of the park. It was placed here in 1858 and
has a sister fountain in Paris France. The fountain is made completely of cast iron.
